The story of Abraham in Genesis isn’t just about faith and obedience — it’s a divine preview of Jesus’ redemptive work. When God asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, He was painting a picture of His own Son to come. “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love…” (Genesis 22:2) — words that echo John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son.”

As Abraham raised the knife, God intervened, providing a ram caught in the thicket — a substitute sacrifice. This moment reveals Jesus, the true Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). On Mount Moriah, Abraham named the place “The Lord Will Provide” (Genesis 22:14), and centuries later, on that same mountain region, God would provide His own Son as the ultimate offering.

The covenant God made with Abraham — “In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 22:18) — was fulfilled through Jesus Christ, the promised Seed (Galatians 3:16). The story of Genesis reminds us that the plan of salvation began long before Bethlehem. From the very first promise to the final fulfillment, God’s Word reveals that Jesus was always the plan.
